It’s summer time, and the living’s easy at your favorite Asheville bed and breakfast!  Jeff and Rocket Girl the falcon are enjoying the trails, folks are leaving their French doors open, and the sounds of Shindig on the Green are filling our Friday nights.  Now that school’s out and the kids are on summer break, it’s the perfect time for a family vacation at the Sourwood Inn!  Asheville is buzzing with activities during this time of year, so do summer right and get outside with some of our wonderful local events.

Fourth of July AshevilleIndependence Day in Asheville | Friday, July 4th

Celebrate the glory of freedom by living the good life in Asheville.  The ideal 4th of July is everywhere you turn, and you can’t help but have a good time by spending the first weekend of the month at The Sourwood Inn.  Park Square Park starts the festivities at 2 PM with music and fun for the whole family, and the celebration continues until late.  Spend the day enjoying an overflow of Downtown Asheville events culminating with a fantastic fireworks display, or create a once in a lifetime memory by viewing the Black Mountain fireworks display from the peak of Sunset Mountain.  For more information and registration for this beautiful Fireworks Hike, call 828-669-9566 or email [email protected]

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games & Carolina West Ribsfest | Friday to Sunday, July 11-13

The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games are modelled after the Braemar Highland Games in Scotland, and are considered to be the preeminent Scottish Games in the United States.  Witness a full weekend full of bagpipe parades, Highland dancing competitions, and traditional athletics such as “tossing the sheaf” and “turning the caber.”  This one of a kind festival has to be seen to be believed—it’s definitely worth a special trip.  http://www.gmhg.org/

If you get tired of watching strong men, head on over to the Carolina West Ribsfest.  Try the best barbecue the US has to offer with pitmaster booths from around the country.  Enjoy live music and other entertainment while you eat!  http://www.carolinawestribfest.com/

Asheville Highland GamesFolkmoot Parade of Nations and International Festival | Starts Friday July 18 and continues for two weeks!

It’s the 30th anniversary of the Folkmoot Festival!  More than 200 groups from 100 different countries converge on Waynesville to share cultural music, crafts, dancing, and food.  You never know what you’ll find at the International Folk Festival, but you know it will always be interesting.  This event is spread out across the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, so you can do some local sightseeing at the same time that you soak up international culture.  Learn more about this massive annual event at the official Folkmoot website.  http://www.folkmootusa.org/

Cashiers Antique Show | Friday to Sunday July 25-27

Antiques lovers will be in heaven at this event.  Visit dealers from around the East Coast as they sell their wares throughout the weekend.  Collectors and casual buyers alike can’t help but be thrilled with the selection.

And as usual, enjoy the view and relax at Sourwood Inn!  July is filling up fast so book your reservations early.  There’s always plenty to do, so don’t forget about our midweek specials!
